Diversity & Inclusion, Workplace Culture

Act on Site

A specialised consultancy program helping trade (including manufacturing) and construction employers recruit and retain women through tailored action plans, training, and cultural change.

Organisation Overview

Women’s Health Grampians (WHG) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the health, wellbeing, and equality of women across the Central Highlands, Grampians, and Wimmera regions of Victoria. Working in partnership with government, business, and community groups, WHG focuses on preventing violence against women and addressing systemic gender inequality. By driving social and cultural change, they aim to build safer, more respectful, and equitable communities where all women can thrive.

Women’s Health Grampians is actively transforming the local industry through “Act on Site,” a workplace gender equity initiative designed specifically for the construction and trade sectors. Originally a federally funded pilot, this program has evolved into a comprehensive fee-for-service consultancy that supports employers in recruiting and retaining a more diverse workforce. The program is built on the understanding that increasing female participation requires more than just new hiring targets; it demands a fundamental shift in workplace culture.

The initiative guides businesses through a structured change process, helping them address the specific barriers that often exclude women from non-traditional roles. Key activities include reviewing and overhauling hiring and recruitment practices to attract a wider talent pool and introducing policies that support greater workplace flexibility. A major focus is placed on safety and respect, with the provision of specialized sexual harassment and bystander training to ensure that the work environment is safe and inclusive for everyone.

By addressing cultural issues head-on, Act on Site helps organisations become employers of choice for women. The program works closely with leadership teams to implement lasting changes that not only improve diversity statistics but also enhance overall business performance. Through this targeted support, Women’s Health Grampians is ensuring that the manufacturing and trade industries in the region are equipped to welcome and support the next generation of female talent.
