This project involved the update of 1 aircraft maintenance engineering unit – MEA362 Maintain aircraft vapour cycle air conditioning systems – and the 2 qualifications and 1 skill set that include it.
MEA362 requires the demonstration of skills on 6 aircraft systems, but 2 of these are not standard in new aircraft designs. The updated unit, coded MEAMEC0077, lists the same 6 systems but requires the demonstration of skills on only 4. Other changes have been made to improve clarity, usability and consistency with other MEA units.
Project guidance was provided by a technical committee with industry and educational expertise. The changes were supported by all stakeholders who gave feedback, including:
- airline employers that operate nationally
- smaller airlines and mechanical maintenance organisations, including regional enterprises
- Australian Manufacturing Workers Union
- Australian Licenced Aviation Engineers Association
- Registered Training Organisations
- industry regulators – Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA).
