MEM: Graduate Diploma of Engineering

The Graduate Diploma of Engineering prepares workers for high-level supervisory technician and technical officer work in a range of discipline areas. Packaging rules were updated in this project to support the flexibility required for this and to support articulation into a range of pathways.

Project guidance was provided by a technical committee with industry and educational expertise. Stakeholders representing unions, employers, professional organisations, RTOs, and Commonwealth, state and territory governments support the changes.

Public and government consultation for MEM: Update to Graduate Diploma of Engineering was open from 12 August until 6 September 2024.

The packaging rules for the MEM80122 Graduate Diploma of Engineering qualification have been amended to include a total of 10 units of competency, compromising of three core and seven elective units. This change closely aligns the qualification structure more closely with the higher education AQF requirements, enabling greater articulation. An additional Group B elective bank has been offered to provide a range of options, enabling flexibility of the qualification structure.

Feedback was sought on the suitability of the draft content to ensure it is accurate and relevant and meets the needs of industry.
